Iranian ‘Khoonab’ receives award at the 2021 Universal Film Festival in the US.

Iranian feature ‘Khoonab’ has received the best director award at the 2021 annual Universal Film Festival in the US.

Directed by Mojtaba Qasemi, the flick was the only representative of Iranian cinema among the top five at the 11th edition of the US festival.

‘Khoonab’ competed with more than 2,830 films from around the world.

“The distance between elevation and descent is as narrow as making a choice; a choice between the good and the evil,” reads as a synopsis to the film.

‘Khoonab’ was previously screened at the Pune International Film Festival in India and the London Lift-Off Film Festival in the UK.

Qasemi is a popular name in short film arena owing to 'Kasco' which brought him the Best Short Narrative award at the 2016 edition of the Full Bloom Film Festival in the US.

The Universal Film Festival is a platform for independent filmmakers worldwide to promote their works.

The latest edition of the event took place in Kansas, Missouri, on November 18-21, 2021.
